nand backup after softmod

After extensive reasearch, I have not found a solution to my problem. I just softmodded my 4.0 Wii using larrylje's awesome tutorial. I followed the tutorial to the letter, and everything works fine. My problem is that I got confused with the gamecube backup thing, and I did not get a chance to backup my nand. Can I still do that even though I already softmodded my wii, or do I have to uninstall the softmod and start over?

Thanks for your expedient response. So I can still use bootmii to backup my current nand, but not the original nand before softmodding, right? I just want to know if I am SOL if I back up my current nand and my wii bricks in the future.

I always Back up my NAND before then after installing new Homebrew software. Between NAND Backups insert the SD card into your PC. Copy the NAND.bin and the Keys.bin to a new folder label something the has meaning to you. You then will have an archive of Restore point to go back to. Also you will not lose all you save game data.

I see. Do I use Bootmii or is there another way to backup my nand? BTW, I made an error in the original post. I mentioned the "gamecube backup thing". What I meant to say was "gamecube controller thing".

Yes use BootMii. On the root of your SD card you will have a folder named BootMii and in there will be three files armboot.bin,bootmii.ini, and ppcboot.elf. The Above files will be on the root of the SD card after successful backing up the NAND. The Back up Process dose take quite abit of time. Scared me the first time. Be sure your SD Card is at min a 1G. The Nand.bin file will be 540K. I just used my Bootmii to restore last week so take it for me keep a log of everything you do and when you do them so after a NAND reinstall you will know what is missing. That is if you don't first Back the NAND up before getting venturous.

Okay--so I will use Bootmii to backup my nand on my SD card (2gb). So what do I do with the three files you mentioned if I brick my Wii? If I successfuly unbrick my wii (hypothetically), will it be restored to the softmodded wii version I am running now?

be sure to have atleast 500 megabytes free on your 2gig sd card before backing up your nand. I suggest you get 32 gigs hd sc but thats just me.

You keep these files in a safe place. I have a special Card (1G) used only for BootMii and I keep a archive of old NAND on my PC.
And Yes You will be back to then day you made the NAND Back up.

okay...sweet. Guess I'll just delete all the files I used to softmod from my 2GB sd and backup my nand on that (then transfer them to my pc). I guess if I have to send my wii back to Nintendo, I'll have to uninstall and downgrade. Then again, I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty anyway. Now if only I can get "Disney Sing It" to work on backup dvd...

Delete, Don't Delete just be sure there is over 1/2G of free space. The reason I keep a dedicated BootMii Disk is if you keep these files on the SD card and keep the card in the Wii, the Wii Will boot into BootMii every time. And Trust me the first time or if you BRICK THE WII you will be happy to have a disk at the ready to pop in and use to Restore. There are other way to fix bricks and maybe less drastic on save data but to me lost save data is better then non functioning $250 Wii. I have no direct experience with Disney's Sing It but the little that I know is you may have to use a IOS like 223 to load that game. If no one comes along or you don't find the answer on your own look at some of the Rock Band 2 Guides to get USB instruments and Mic to work. The Hermes cIOS 222/223 I recall is a answer to this.

I was considering using the usb loader, but I would spend the same amount of $ on a large enough flash drive as the game itself. Trying to keep the wife happy by not spending any more--or am I wrong about the size of the usb drive?

i think you are misunderstanding a a bit. I just soft modded myself, all have is a 2gb jump drive. it can hold 1 or 2 games or so. not really the desired storage i want. The ideal drive would be an external hard drive with several hundred gb, therefore allow the storage of several hundred games. Be careful when selecting a hard drive for use with the usb port, because like evything else, the wii is picky and many drives are non-compatible. i tried my WD Mybook 1 TB. It will not work. there's a list of known compitable drives floating around these forums somewhere, just look. Have fun, good luck, enjoy!

I was not aware that a 2 GB flash drive was large enough to hold any games. I actually did find a way to backup "disney sing it pop hits" on dvd. i mentioned this in another thread:
NEVER SAY DIE!!! I finally got Disney Sing It Pop Hits to work on a DVD-R disk!! Again, I have a softmodded Wii 4.1U (using larrylje's tut). I used the following explanation (hope I'm not breaking any rules using this link):

The settings reedles66 is referring to is, of course, using ios 232 then making sure you enable the 002 fix and fake ios as well. Hope this helps anyone getting the "frozen microphone screen" on their Disney Sing It game.

Customarily, an ISO is loaded using IOS249. However, every now and then you'll notice that some will load only when using Hermes' cIOS.
