hi
i bought my nintendo wii a few months ago it was already modchipped
i dont know what type of chip is inside it
is there any way of finding out?
have upgraded the console to 4.2 but i understand that the chip needs upgrading to play more recent games (eg wii fit, guitar hero etc)
any help would be great

The only real way to find out what modchip you have is to open the console up and look at it.

That said though, I doubt your modchip needs upgrading. There have been no significant updates in modchips since smash bros brawl came out almost a year ago.

If you're having problems with specific games then try to explain them and we could troubleshoot for you.

ok would the modchip be labelled or something (i'm completely new to this sorry)
im unsure how long the people before me had the console so im not sure whether they would have already carried out the upgrade
have been having problems with wii fit plus
when the disk was inserted it said "unable to read disc" yet when i tried the disc in a friend's console the game worked fine

Just because it works in one system doesn't mean it will work in all systems.

Is this a retail or a backup copy?

If this is a backup copy what media are you using?

Is this an out of region copy of the game? If so you will need to use Gecko OS to load the Import game. 4.2 blocks Imports from working on Modchips.

Does other retail games work?

If they do then it is probably an issue with the WiiFit+ disc itself.

If no retail disc will play then it is probably an issue with the modchip.

other then that you really need to open up the system and tell us what modchip you have to make sure you have the latest firmware for it.

Is the WiiFit+ retail disc the same region as your system?

yeah the wii sports (retail) works fine
would i need a professional to identify what kind of modchip i have?
and yes it was the same region :S

As stated above you will need to open up the Wii to find out what modchip you have. You can take a picture of it and post it in this thread if you need help identifying it.

You also have the option to remove the Modchip and end up softmodding the system. This option will allow you to load games off a USB Device so their is no need fro disc at all.
