I have a modded wii with the homebrew channel and backup gator. The person that modded it for me told me never to update it. I have some new games that require you to update in order to play. Should I update or what do you do?

Try using the GeckoOS loader first : http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Gecko_OS

This loader is special because it usually allows you to play games without updating the console. In some cases it may not work, but it does most of the time. If it doesn't work it usually means that the game needs a new IOS installed before it will play. What particular games are asking for updates?
