I have wii 4.2U hard modded wiikey 1 1.9s and backup of an unpatched nsmb game. I do not have neogamma installed. Can I play nsmbw with only my modchip or do i really need this neogamma. ive never installed the homebrew channel.

i had to join to ask, what do you mean ? if i can play backup on that setup please tell me how.

i have confirmation from two other sites and people that

if u have a wiikey v1 ntsc with 4.1u and 1.9s installed and
use no softmod or homebrew apps that the game CANNOT and WILL NOT work from just the wiikey modchip.

i post because those are my specs wiikey v1 nstc 4.1u and 1.9s update
i only play originals and backups

the new super mario bros wii original disc has updated my system from 3.4u to 4.1u and it works perfect i can make my own backup but with confirmation from others i just will get a disk read error

your post says this is not true can u elaborate on how it works with just wiikey mod no homebrew ?

other peoples posts say the following :

I have a wiikey v1 and patched 4.1U - no softmod. I applied the IND patch to the iso and burned the resulting iso to a RW. I get the splash screen in the disc channel but when I launch it, it errors out telling to shut down and restart the wii.

i don't think that you can play it from the disc channel with your setup now. sorry if my terminology is wrong but this is what i am getting at. like everyone is doing, they must patch the game which is resigned when using wiiscrubber if i am not mistaken. that means your IOS must have that trucha bug in it but you are on firmware 3.4U which took away the ability to play resigned games. so that is why everyone is using DOP-IOS to download and patch the IOS. the least risky method to play the game will be to install you homebrew channel and load the game with GeckoOS 1.9.2b with the Ocarina code

thats odd then how am i running a Wiikey v1 using the patch burned to a verbatim - r disk and playing it through without errors. Seems to me nobody knows what they are doing any more. Its not hard to read the patch instructions to get this game working. Do you need me to post pictures to prove it? I mean seriously just read the patch on how to do so.

If you dont want to do this just soft mod your system and install neo gamma r8.

And if that still doesnt work just buy the real game which now doesnt work from what i heard as well because all these people are messing up their systems softmodding without really knowing what they are feeding into their wiis memory data bank.

@Drakonian

The patch doesn't work for everyone. I patched my game and instead of DRE errors in game the console crashes if I start it up with the backup disk inserted.

A good number of people I've spoken to still have the same problem, though most do not. I cant seem to figure out why this is.

My original copy of the game works fine, but I live with people who have... issues... keeping disks in working order, so all my original disks stay safely in a box in my closet.

Ok, I'll try to explain.

The patch DID fix the random disk read errors I was getting, but I cannot start a patched disk normally from the disk channel. I need to start it through the homebrew channel. Only then does it run. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Anyway, you need to extract the iso from the rar files. You should be able to just open the first rar file with winrar or whatever you use to extract rar files and extract normally. So long as all the files are in the same folder winrar will treat them as one large rar file.

As for how to patch it and what patch to use, if you google "New_Super_Mario_Bros_Wii_USA_main.dol_FiX_Wii-iND" you should be able to find the files and directions you need.

And my wiikey is an original, so that is not the issue. I dont know why the patched disk doesn't work for some people from the disk channel, but I havent been able to find a fix. For the time being, if your wii won't start the patched game from the disk channel then you have to install homebrew channel and neogamma.

The patches I've seen come with NO instructions. And the instructions I've used from other forums work fin at first, but falls through in the end.

I just can't get this patch to work! I keep getting a 0kb copy of the ISO every time I use it. It scans and loads and does everything else fine, but then it poops out the same 0kb file. I also looked up an alternate way using the ImageDiff application. This took longer to scan, but gave me an error message instead. "Exception: Wrong opposite image. expected"

I can't even find out whether or not this patch even works.

well i guess you're full of sh$t. Instead of trying to answer a question you come across as a jerk and look like a tool in the end.

Seems like you don't know what you are doing anymore.

atleast i got my super mario bros wii game working. Dont hate me cause yours do not work. Seriously shut up. I said its different for everyone, and mine just happens to work. How the heck should i know which ios / cios people have installed or files they have on their wii. People also have different wiikeys and some could be clones. If you dont have any respectful input dont post.

I have Wiikey V1 and 4.2U. I have wasted few DVDs to try without softmod. I just couldn't get it to work. So I ended up softmod my Wii and instaled Neogamma R8. I can run my 1st unpatched DVD now without any issue with Neogamma. Don't waste your time/DVD, just softmod your Wii and use Neogamma R8, so that you can enjoy the game sooner.

That's the exact same patch I downloaded. I've also been to Wiihacks forum as well. Sigh...I might have to download ANOTHER copy of this rom. Seriously, I bought a chip so I wouldn't have to go through all this softmodding crap.
