I am thinking of getting this game for my kids for Christmas. I have read that it has an update for the 4.2 firmware. I have the 4.1 softmodded and do not want to update. Is there a workaround for this to run from the usb loader gx or can I just load it to the hard drive w/o the update and it will still work. thx

No that wont work. i tried it. u get an error saying to take the disc out, turn off the wii and read the manual. hopfully pryme or larry know a work-around for this.
With plenty of failed attempts you will always know what not to do.

First off, NO US or PAL game contains anything over 3.4 in the update.
Second, if you want to rip to hard drive you just run the alt.dol that is mentioned in the other 3 million threads concerning this game. You can either run the alt.dol from sd card or you can rip the disc and replace the dol with wiiscrubber and put that image on your hard drive instead.
do a search .......tell ye what, I will save you the trouble.

Actually I did do a search (at the time)and found nothing regards to the usb loader only the wii key. thanks for your help because people do actually search things and might not include the specific thing that they need to find the exact answer because the question might not be asked in a specific way. if you do a search on just new super mario bros wii there are over 1 million hits on google. people here who do respond like GGXena need to get off their high horse and stop acting like a-holes because they might know something that someone else does not and feel that the people who ask questions are beneath them. thats why these forums are around to help people and discuss topics not act like arrogant jerks. but again thank you for helping.

I updated USB loader to Rev 830 & NSMB is working just fine off the usb loader. I've read that it freezes or crashes after a few boards, but I haven't had that happen yet.
I have a 4.1 softmodded wii w/usb loader gx.

get rid of GX and get configurable usb loader.
and there is a system update on NSMBwii retail. it's unclear whether it's 4.1 or 4.2, but it DOES update boot2 to v4. if you have boot2 bootmii, just reinstall it after running the update.

Any Chance of a softmod fix coming available sometime before the new year. It's like everytime I look at the wii forums new hax are coming about. For a person who is not able to keep up then this would really suck.

no I did do a search on google and on here. I have many post on here that when I do find the answer after doing research myself I ask for the threads to be closed and when people do help I always thank them. As a member and not a newbie I know the rules and am respectful but when a person replies first off then secondly is a tone that is like pointing a finger at a child. Then have a condescending tone when saying (do a search .......tell ye what, I will save you the trouble) yes I will have an attitude and respond the way I did. If a person responds like an jerk they will get a jerk response.

The problem is that people are so used to being online they don't realize how they sound. If most of these replies on any forums were stated in the way it was posted in responses, face to face,there would be many fights and arguments. I know I was an ass in the way I replied to his response.

Wizdum----I apologize to you. I do not mean to come off rude to you. I am just saying that on these post. some people need to get the chip off there shoulder when people ask questions. People do look and search and still might need help because they are not finding what they need or are asking the question wrong. These forums get new (newbies) all the time and they dont know what it is or what is going on. I am now seeing moderators doing it. I personally like afterdawn more then any other site but with the arrogance that people have when they (answer) the question that people ask makes me and probably other people or new guys not want to ask or post. Again I apologize to you.

I have to agree with both of you. Wiz..I myself try to find the answers to my problems by searching around & at the end, if I can't find an answer, then I will ask a question.
The other part is that when I do ask for help, no one bothers to help. I guess they feel that we should be searching. I've had problems many of times that I found myself, but there will be that 1 time when I really do need help.
Aren't these forums here to help people?
Well, I said what I had to say, now is there a fix for USB Loader GX & NSMB wii?

Agreed, But I have found Afterdawn the best forum for help. larrylje alone has helped me SO much! As for a fix for UBS GX and NSMB.... I went to the same site GGXena linked.

But I 1st had the pal version, won't load. Received the USA one, won't load. Then I found that site linked. I first scrubbed the USA one with the main.dol, won't work. So as a last attempt I scrubbed the PAL one. And it finally worked.
I am running a soft modded wii, 4.1u, USB_Loader_GX-ULNR-r600. I have 3 wii's. The guide said to load Install IOS53-v540. I did that on my 1st wii. Once NSMB worked on that one, I just hooked up another wii to that harddrive. It loaded NSMB. I didn't load IOS53-v540 on the other 2 wii's. (Keep in mind this was only after I scrubbed it and got it working)
Some people are saying the game locks up at world 2, 15 mins in, ect. I haven't played it long enough to see if it does. So I would just install IOS53-v540 to be safe. (No it will no hurt your wii by installing it)
leo8013: NSMB never asked to update. Just scrub the main.dol as per guide and in theory it should work. But it may depend what version of NSMB you have. I like to only have NTSC versions, but in this case the PAL one was the only one I could get working. Just got a black screen with USA one.

Well, I'm getting the ISO myself since I have the original NTSC disc. So you're saying that even after scrubbing this, it will still not work?
I guess I'm gonna have to get the PAL version then. I don't mess with PAL games, only stick with NTSC games as well.
I'll give it a go when i have a chance.

Well that was my luck with it. My friend apparently got the patched NTSC version and did nothing. He just loaded it on his hard-drive and played. He is well into the game with no problems what so ever. He didn't updated anything. So good luck, But in my case I had the unpatched PAL version that finally worked.

thanx for the help. I am getting it soon for my kids christmas. I will have the US version (NTSC) but cant load it till then. hopefully by then it will have a definitive fix instead of hit or miss. From what I have read there is a wiikey fix but like you guys have read its hit or miss and even with the hit it might lock with the usb loader.
