Okay, I know this is getting boring now but has anyone got the above working without patching??
If you have, what settings and which version of neogamma?
Reading google for the last 3 hours it seems that this should be possible without patching with the latest releases of Neogamma but I can't get it to work for love nor money!!!
Anyone.....??

Okay, quick update.
If I include the .wip files in the root of the SD card and tell Neogamma to search for pacthes then it will work on version R8 beta 15. I thought that this version should work without having to do that?
Very strange. Anyone know why this is the case?
Thanks
Kev

As far as I know, the game data needs to be in a USB device not burned to a disc for it to work straightaway.

Thanks as always Pryme_h but I thought that the latest version of Neogamma didn't need for any data to be on usb or sd??
I can get it to work with the .wip on SD but I can't leave this SD card in the wii at the moment so thats no use.
The quest continues!

I would try updating Neogamma to RC3, the latest version. Also, update to cIOS38 Rev17. Rev17 supposedly contains BCA (Burst Cutting Area) code. This is the encryption that was first introduced in NSMB.

I'm using R8 Beta 15. The .wip files are in a folder called neogamma in the root, I have an unpatched disc version that now runs flawlessly.

Download the update. Put the file (DOL format) in the apps folder, and then launch it via HBC.

Okay,
I can confirm that with Neogamma R8 beta 15 (and all subsequent releases) AND cIOS38 Rev 17 installed, NSMB will load from back up disc with no extra files on the SD card required eg the .wip files.
Thanks to Pryme_H who suggested the new cIOS38 rev and also for his help with it's installation.
Cheers
