New Wii - before doing a softmod, which Firmware should I update to?

It looks like I shouldn't update it to 4.2, but does that imply updating to 4.1 is the best way to go? Where would I find the 4.1 firmware update??

You can update it to 4.2 and still mod it, it will just need a few extra steps. Follow this guide: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901

Its very simple and easy to follow.

4.2 is NOT recommended. use the guide found here at After dawn. It is always not far from the top of the list. Larry has don't an outstanding job. I even believe it will/has the option to bring your system up to 4.1

I've modded several wii's on various firmwares. For firmware 4.1 and below I followed larry's guide, and for those on 4.2 I followed the guide I linked to earlier.

I've had no issues with any of them. 4.2 wii's just need a few extra steps and about 2 additional minutes.
