Newb, old firmware, what version FW to use?

Hi

I have a wii (LEH1550...) with d2pro (3/2008) and it's on firmware 3.1E.
Apart from that it's vanilla (no HBC on it yet etc. )

But I don't know what firmware version is best to upgrade to?

My only goal is to have HBC and a working USB loader, and obviously be able to play most backed up games, new ones too.

So I'm thinking maybe 4.1 is the best way to go?

(Yes I know I should install HBC before the update)

Actually you're better off updating before installing HBC. The more recent exploits like bannerbomb are easier to use than the twilight hack, and give more options.

As for which firmware to update to, that is entirely up to you. You can update to 4.1 with a recent game (like new super mario bros) or you can just update online to go to 4.2 and install your softmod from there. There's no real advantage to either firmware except that if you take it to 4.2 then you can't accidentally update and wipe the softmod out.
