Hi,
First time ever so any help would be appreciated.
I have a Wii Version 4.1U (couple years old now)
I have a Seagate 2TB external hard drive.
I am using USB Loader GX version Rev874c IOS249 (Rev 9)
I have over 200 Wii games on my hard drive.
When I go to start some of them, it takes me back to the Wii Menu/home
When I go to start some of them, it gives me the "black screen of death" which requires a hard reboot/reset.
Some games work just fine, while most are not.
I updated wirelessly to the version mentioned above on 01.05.10
I don't want to lose 200 games but don't know what I'm doing where some games work, and most don't.
Please help..
Thanks!

I'm kind of an idiot at this, "switch gx to configurable usb loader?"
Isn't my GX configurable I have all these options??

One more thing, I should add that while adding all these games (took a lot of time) I would occasionally run into where I'd leave the game to load and not get back to it for a while, causing me to have to hard boot the Wii and go onto the next game, could that have anything to do with it?
It's better to be right than smart..

You probably have one image that is corrupted.
Either Delete all images and redownload them all, or check your images on your pc, to see if there are any listed as corrupted or damaged

This can happen on any given game, and for the newest games especially
YOu could check the compatibility list to see if that game is compatible.

I use the stable version Rev 600, but not sure if that would be the problem either.
'Configurable USB loader' is just another type of loader for USB games.
You could try it also.

Smokyrain, what am I looking for when I look for bad images? You mean look to see if the game did not copy correctly? Like I say, I would load a game, walk away, then come back some time later to a locked up screen (my guess is that could have something to do with it?) But that means then I have to sit in front of the TV and be waiting for the game to load and then finish it immediately after it loads or else the loader locks up on itself? I thank you in advance for your help!

Are you using backup disc to rip to your Wii or retail disc?
If these are backup disc then I would suggest redoing them all and rip them to your PC then transfer them to the USB Device using your PC. I know this might take a little bit of time but doing it that way would be more reliable then ripping using the Wii drive.
I would also recommend going to the guide that smokyrain linked to (it is the CFG USB Loader guide in my sig) and follow it. In this guide you will use a FAT32 file system instead of the WBFS file system partition. You convert the ISO files to WBFS files and add them to a FAT32 formated partition.
I think this way is allot more reliable then using a WBFS formated partition.

Hi I don't know what went wrong but this is my second Wii I have softmodded and since this one has a broken DVD drive I heavily depend on the external USB harddrive. I have tested with 2 different harddrives now and still get the same problem. It wil just try to mount the external harddrive, i see the power light flash (WD 500Gb My-book, worked with the first Wii) and then it cycles back to the menu. With the 1st Wii I used a different USB loader but I have tried that one as well without any better results. I follow the instructions given by larrylje (wreat instructions) and that is exactly what I did with the first Wii. Oh yes for a while I got the message can not find file and it never made it to the menu,b ut after the 2nd softmod cycle that has disappeared!
I am on firmware version 4.2U and have done all the softmodding as instructed by larrylje before starting the USB loader. Actually I have done it twice now!
Thanks for your help!

Have you got the HDD connected to the correct USB Port? (Bottom port if wii is laying down/left port if wii is standing up)
Also, ensure you have the correct cIOS installed (USB Support)
Lastly, is your HDD on the compatibility list?
There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary code, and those who don't

ditch GX and switch to configurable usb loader. i just tried to load GX with my setup, and it failed to detect the drive, while configurable loads without any problems.

Thanks for the responces both of you!
Yes I am sure I am on the right USB port. I also switched to configurable USB (I love the ton of options here). COnfig file is set to FAT1. I reformatted the USB drive so it is on FAT32 and no longer on exFAT. I also use the drive that worked last time so I am not to worried about compatability. THe 2nd drive I use is a home build one ...... so I expect that that would not be on a compatibility list.
That's about all! I can think off right now!

i'd try the drive anyways. mine is a custom, and it's working without any problems. aluminum cased ams venus ds2 with a western digital scorpio black 7200rpm drive; only one cable needed.
