Hi just got a wii for the reason of soft modding it i thought you could play backups without a chip but i read in one of these threads someone saying you need to have your wii chipped to play backups so is it true any help will be great thanx.

Go and read the stickies, it has the directions on there. Or read the first link on my sig.

Please do more research and THEN ask questions.

FYI: You don't need a chip, I don't have one and I am able to play backups

has above you dont need a chip to play them, softmod will do the trick
