Once i Install IOS can i remove from SD?

Silly question.
But can I delete any wads or IOS's that I have installed to the Wii and onto the Homebrew? I have all of these IOS's installed, but they wads are still on my SD. Can I just wipe out the SD card and still have the IOS working if they were installed onto the Wii?

if they're installed, then they're installed to the system itself. you don't need them anymore if you're not planning on doing other wiis.

It is kind of annoying to have all of these wads that are allready installed.
What about the Homebrew Channel? Would it be the same case with those?
