new wii's with these serials may not be able to read dvd-r. its phisically impossible, nintendo removed the ability in the drive itself. you will need to use USB Loader or get a modchip for the D3-2 chip

if your Serial Number is higher than these you may have a D3-2 drive

UK
LEH2682XXXXX

EU
LEF1128XXXXX

USA / Canada
LU7012XXXXX
LU3941XXXXX

Australia
LAH1167XXXXX

UPDATE
Serial above, may have GC2-D3-2

LU1133XXXXXX

google Wii Drive Chip Database, enter the first letters and numbers of your serial. if you get a DVD drive chip return of GC2-D3-2, install the HBC and use a USB Loader app.

Hi, i put went to the site and put my first few numbers in. this is what i got

Serial number: LEH5004
The Wii has a RVL-001(EUR) model number and is produced for the European market. The copyright year is 2006.

Your drive most likely has the following chipset:
?There is a 100% chance the chipset is GC2-D3-2 (v2) with no drive chip.

Compatible Wii modchips:
?DriveKey - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3
?Wasabi DX - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3

and yes i do not have a clue what it means hahahaha

so i'm guess that it means i can not play dvd-r?? i will have to
look for a hard drive :)

thanks

As far as I know, ALL wii's can still be softmodded to play backup game disks.

I have no idea why yours isnt reading them, but the fact that modchips are still compatible means that the drive CAN read the disks.

Last time I heard Modchips will not work on D3-2 drives. Neither will disc loaders. You will need to use a USB Loader.

i have been messing around with my black wii on 4.2 since xmas and the only thing i can get to work is an external hardrive with a partion for my games you will need a program called usbloader gx installed as a .wad to give it a channel and use wbfs manager on the computer

usb loader has the funtion of direct backup to a hardrive if the original disc is to hand will not read copies dvd-r or dvd+r

wbfs manager allows iso files to be converted into wbfs files and stored on the hardrive

hope this helps anyone

private message if anyone needs any files i used to get it working

USB Loader GX sucks.

Use CFG USB loader.
