So I just got a new external HDD, Western Digital My Book 500GB and I'm having trouble properly partitioning it. I want to use most of it for regular files so I partitioned a seperate 100gb and everytime I try to use WBFS manager to format it I get "an error occured while attempting to format the drive". Ive used the manager to format usb sticks before and it worked perfect.

The partition I'm trying to format is formatted NTFS. Ive also tried while formatted as exFAT and that didnt work either. And those are the only 2 options listed when I format the drive. I didnt see FAT32 and I was also confused because FAT32 only holds up to 4GB files and most iso's are ~4.6GB so how does that work? Id prefer to have it FAT32 so I can just drag and drop but I dont have the option to format FAT32 and dont understand how it would work anyway.

EDIT: I just tried again and it took. I think I must have had the drive open in another windows which prevented it from being formatted. Thanks anyway. Delete post or lock or w/e please.

I don't understand why it is not letting you format to FAT32, but normally FAT32 is fine to use because when you convert a wii game to .wbfs format it automatically scrubs it, lowering the filesize. And games that don't shrink enough will be split into multiple parts, again, this happens automatically during the conversion process.

And if you're using the configurable USB loader, NTFS partitions will work for loading games. The only difference is that it cant write to NTFS on it's own, so you cant use the loader to take games on and off the drive and will only be able to do that on your computer.

you have to use the command box to format into FAT32 with vista/win7. open a command box and type

format (drive letter): /fs:fat32

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

There are also 3rd party applications out there that use a GUI to format your drives to FAT32 (if you don't like command prompt lines).

You can find a link to one of those applications in my CFG USB LOADER (FAT32) GUIDE link in my sig.

As for games that are over 4GB when you convert the games to WBFS files the games over 4GB will be split in 2 parts.
