Well, it appears none of my backups are working any more. After reading thru the boards it looks like my best option is to switch to a usb loader. Right now, my wii is at 4.2 and I'm using NeoGamma R7. I think I have downloaded all the files I need but I would like to know where I should start. Do I just remove everything I have now on my SD card and extract all my new files onto it? Or can I just drag and drop certain files onto my SD card and do the install like that? Please use simple language when replying seeing as this is only the 3rd time in a year and a half I've done any kind of modding and my memory is somewhat short. :)

Ok, I guess you can disregard my previous post. I've been messing around with my wii and I think I've got everything loaded that I need. My problem now is when I run USB loader. I've already ripped one game to my HDD and I do get to the screen with the "spinning disk"(the one where you load the game). The problem is, when I click on the game to load it, my screen goes black for about 10 seconds and then it takes me back to the HBC. Any suggestions on what I need to fix?

Unfortunately not. I did get my gamecube controller and am now trying to update to rev21 but I keep getting errors. When I try to update thru my wifi, it freezes on the "Initializing Network" screen. When I try to use the SD card, I get this error- "ERROR! (ret= -2) Press any button to continue".

if you already had neogamma running, then all you needed to do was to install a usb loader. i recommend configurable usb loader over GX.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

I kept reading everywhere that I needed to update to cIos rev21 so that's what I've been trying to do. I will download a configurable loader and give that a shot.
EDIT: Ok, I've dl'd Configurable usb loader and when I run it I get this error: "ERROR: Custom IOS 249 is a stub! Please reinstall it."

if you can't run cIOSX_rev21, run IOS236 v5 installer first. then run cIOSX_rev21 under IOS236, and install base 57 to IOS249, and base 56 to IOS250.
if you still can't install IOS249, run dop-mii v15, under IOS236, and uninstall the stubbed IOS222/223/224/248/249/250/254. you don't need to populate all of them right now, but it will keep them clear for now.

I wish I totally understood what you are saying! LOL! Sorry to be such a noob. Anyway, I've downloaded the IOS236 installer. Now, there's two folders- the "IOS236" folder, and a "source code" folder. I just move the "IOS236" folder into the apps folder on my SD card, right? Where do I put the contents of the "source code" folder?

When I run rev21 and try to install to ios249, I get an error- "Install ERROR! (ret= -1035). :( BTW, I don't have an IOS236. If I'm correct, I read I should use IOS36 so that's what I've been using.

error 1035 is a stubbed IOS. that's what dop-mii v15 is used for. to remove those stubs.
and if you didn't have IOS236, there's a IOS236 v5 installer for that.

Ahhh, ok. I'll download that next. How do I go about getting covers for my games?

If you are using GX, then unlock the loader (if locked) hover over a game and press 2 on the wii remote. This will give you the option of which covers if the wii is connected to the internet.
If its not connected to the internet then download the cover from wiitdb.com and add it manually to the images folder on the SD card

I haven't been able to get configurable loader to work. Still getting the "ios249 is a stub" error. I'm using GX though and so far so good. Thanks for all your help!

I'll try installing them directly from my wii next. I did download a few from my pc to the card using the configurable loader program that came in the zip package, just like you suggested. Thanks!

why are you not taking care of the IOS249 problem? that is one of the crucial IOS that you need.
i've told you repeatedly to run the IOS236 installer, and then dop-mii v15 to remove the stubbed IOS. afterwards, you run cIOSX_rev21 installer to install IOS249. it doesn't get any simpler than that.

I've done everything you suggested and everything is looking good. I got both GX and Configurable working and even got a channel for GX onto my home menu. I really don't like the interface of the Configurable loader though- really bland and probably a bit too complicated for my 4 year old. Is there any way to get it to open up automatically to the GUI page instead of that list-looking page? Also, is there a way to add a channel onto my home menu like GX?

if you want a different gui for listing games, change your theme. mine is set to simple and the game list is using coverflow/gridflow

I just wanna say thanks for all your help! I know it's a bit frustrating explaining things over and over to a noob but I appreciate it. I took care of the 249 issue and everything else you told me to. So far, everything's running great.
EDIT: I was having problems with the Configurable loader running from the wii menu but I figured out I had to change the setting to make it read from my SD card. How the hell I figured that out I don't know! But I did!
