Problem with screen going blank when playing a Gamecube game

Hi
I'm having a bit of trouble out of my Wii when I am trying to play a Gamecube game on it. On the main screen, when I go to the disc channel and tell it to start a Gamecube disc (an original disc, not a backup) the screen will, for a lack of a better way to say it, simply disappear. My TV is setup to display the current selected source when it is not receiving a video signal and that is what comes up. The truly odd thing that I can still hear what is going on, such as the title menu, and I can even start a game and I can hear it, but I get no video. I have tried this on both my HDTV with the Nintendo component cables and on an SDTV with the composite cables that come with the Wii. Wii games work just fine when using the original discs and when loading from USB Loader GX.

2 other problems I have noticed
bootmii does not load at when the console is turned on when I am using an SDTV (it loads first thing when connected to an HDTV)
The Homebrew icon in bootmii does not go to the homebrew channel, it only goes to a black screen (not blank) but I can run the homebrew channel just fine from the wii menu.

Any ideas on what I can try?
