Problems with USB hard drive and USB loader

Hi all,

I have had a 4.2 soft modded wii for a while now and have had no problems with my 16Gb USB pen drive.

I have an old 40 GB Western digital caviar HDD and decided to purchase one of these

I formatted the drive to fat 32 using this utility:

http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/

as Windows does not allow fat 32 formatting for more than 32 GB drives and then copied the conents of my pen drive across.

I turned off my wii, plugged in the hard drive then turned on the Wii and went to CFG USB loader as normal and just got a blank screen saying cannot load file (or something similar). I replace my memory stick and everything is fine.

I have had a look for the HDD on the compatibility list and it isn't listed. My question is am I doing anything wrong or am I just unlucky that the drive isn't compatible?

your flash drive has the files you need to boot configurable usb loader. copy everything over to the external drive.

Thanks for the response. Sorry, I should have said that I copied everything from my flask drive to the HDD.

If the problem were merely an incompatible drive it would say something like 'drive not detected' or something.

A 'cannot load file' error means that the dol file that makes up the usb loader cannot be found.
