I have 4.1u softmodded wii. I'd like to completely remove it All. Anyone have a guide or link that could help me? I saw something a wiihacks.com but I figured I'd try here to be sure.

Update to 4.3. That should remove everything.

Update to 4.2 using one of the following games:
Endless Ocean 2
Super Mario Galaxy 2

You could also get the 4.2 system menu WADs & install them via WAD Manager. 4.2 erases all softmods & you can softmod it again again should you ever want to do so.

4.2 System Menu WAD (NTSC-U): (Link Removed)
IOS70 WAD: (Link Removed)

it wouldn't read the new metroid. Is that a mod problem or hard ware? Its a new retail disc

Most likely hardware. When smash bros brawl (the first dual layer game for the wii) came out, a lot of consoles had problems playing it and had to be sent in for 'servicing.' Basically adjusting a variable resistor to up the power to the laser.

True, it could be a hardware problem, but let's not rule out that it could be a mod problem. If you didn't run the system update for Metroid Other M, than chances are you need it's IOS in order to use it.

Have you tryed using the official wii lens cleaner? Normal dvd cleaners wont work as the wii wont spin a non wii disc. Could just be a bit of muck on the lens? £6-£8 is a lot less than a new wii drive.

Does your wii not play originals? If this is so you could try cleaning the lens, the fact that your console still boots gc games is a sign it's not completely gone yet. Unless your homebrew programs like The Homebrew Channel are still intact & working, highly unlikely, you'd have to replace the optical drive for a new one, since all 4.3 softmod methods require discs.

But do try cleaning the lens thoroughly first, though.

Well the Wii lens cleaner did not work. Any other suggestions before I send it in?

the softmods have been removed. I sent it in to nintendo and they returned it saying they cannot work on it because its been "altered". so basically i have a gamecube in a wii shell. Should I start a new thread saying "I effed up my wii and need help"?

You should not have done that. And no, you shouldn't start that thread, you already got one here. From where you are at this point, you could:

1) Softmod your wii & use USB Loaders to run your games. This may bypass the disc error, but it may not work if your optical drive is completely 100% dead.

OR

2) Buy a new optical drive & replace your old one with it.
