Started as 4.0u i was going to use this method to update to 4.2u (have used before) http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901 got the ret=1036 but had hbc installed. Then my friend did a wii system update to 4.2u and he deleted hbc. Now when i go to wii>datemanagement>channels>sdcard it freezes. I'm trying to softmod but now i ran into this problem.

P.S. I deleted the private folder and then it didn't freeze anymore but then could continue the softmoding process because it had nothing to load.

Try running your homebrew from the sd card, but this time, use the SD Card Menu. This is a new feature to the wii, added by the update. It is a small square icon next to the settings button on the wii menu. Because this has been added, the Data Management SD Card Menu becomes redundant. It should not have anything to do with your software data. If there were anything wrong, you'd probably brick by now.
