Yes I have read the other threads about this problem, but they all seem to be older and I don't want to do anything that might make the problem worse.
1. I get the fix/us/eng/index01.html error when trying to access the wii settings.
2. I haven't tried anything yet, I don't have homebrew or anything. In fact, I have no idea what version of the menu I have, etc. I just noticed that the settings wouldn't open today. And without the settings being able to open, I don't know how to figure out what version I have.
3. I wanted to try the hackmii installer v0.6 HERE to get bootmii to backup my wii just in case I screw something up. Is that a good idea? It also says it is capable of installing the homebrew channel, also good?
4. Don't know if this helps but we've tried playing the newest super mario brothers game and it won't work, but other games do work. (all on backup disks).
Please help me fix the semi brick if you can.
I'm not well versed in all this hack stuff, I didn't do it myself, my fiance had someone do it for us.
bootmii,or any other backup utility, is essential if you dont want to mess your system up. alot of ppl use preloader but i heard that it could brick your system... not sure if thats a rumor or not so i left it alone
What region is your console? As far as I know, if it's American the serial no. should start with LU and continue with (I think) 8 digits. Whatever the region is, you should obtain one of the latest games for that region and update the firmware with it. Or you could use a Wii semi-brick fix disc for your region (Google it) to downgrade the firmware. I haven't tried any of these methods myself, but I've read that they've worked for many people. Installing BootMii would be the safest way to go so you can back up your Wii's NAND. But it's pretty much only useful if you can install it as boot2. It's up to you how you want to deal with the semi-brick, but I'm only a newbie so I don't think I'm all that reliable. Good luck.

Bootmii as boot2 is OK.
otherwise you have no use of it and need priloader...
If used properly priloader will not brick your Wii... if someone has bricked Wii with priloader thaen he has misused it...
I have priloader and my Wii works perfectly.
Bootmii if not as boot2 will not save your Wii in case of brick, you will be unable to restore your Nand.
