Lately I've started noticing some small squares popping randomly in the screen, even in the Wii Channel, and they have been getting worse overtime.

After some research it seems to be artifacts caused by the overheating of the GPU when leaving WiiConnect24 and/or playing Resident Evil 4...
Truth is I had WiiConnect24 on all these years and the last game I played was RE4... so it seems that's the problem I am having.

My console was bought on December 2006 and from what I've read it seems like Nintendo still accepts the consoles for repair in these cases, even if it's out of warranty.

But before I try that... since it's softmodded, is there anything else I should do besides removing the Backup Launcher and the Homebrew Channel?

Or should I also do a system update on top of that so it gets bricked and say there was a power outage while updating? Wouldn't they just brick it themselves if as routine they try to update it to 4.2 after repairing the GPU? It's ok if I have to pay 85 bucks as I've been reading.
