so i got a broken wii for free off of a friend. i opened it and couldn't figure out whats wrong with it. The red light is on when you plug in the ac adapter but when you push the power button the red light turns off. the system will not turn on at all. I was ready to throw it on ebay but figured i would call Nintendo and see if it was still under warranty. the system is not under warranty and i talked Nintendo down from 75 dollars to 50 dollars to have it fixed. Will Nintendo have any way of knowing that the console was opened? i carefully put everything back together and tried not to make any markings on the screws. thanks

They will probably know and not care. They are usually pretty good with customer service.

I had opened up once of my kid's DS's and it was obvious I opened it. I then sent it into Nintendo for a repair and they repaired it with out an issue.

Err...I wouldn't be so sure, usually Nintendo can tell if the Wii console has been Modified, & if they do find it modified, they will either refuse to fix it or smack a rather large fee for it's repair.

You probably should try sending it to a local modshop first & see if they can work out what's wrong with it.

They probably won't care.

I sent them my wii for repairs once when I messed up the firmware. I took out my drive with modchip attached and replaced it with a broken different model drive I had laying around. Furthermore, both times I opened it up, first to install the modchip and second time to swap the drive out, I ended up with extra screws. So it was quite clear I'd tampered with it.

They said nothing about my changes, and simply did a full internal swap of the console. New drive and new motherboard. So I actually came out ahead in the deal, I got my wii repaired and was able to sell the new drive to cover the costs.
