i have this 2.2U wii...and i want to soft mod it so i can play backups. everywhere ive looked, i cant find a guide for a 2.2U wii..and i also need a net connection for my wii.. which i dont have. im a complete newbie at wiis...and it also said i needed a sd card..i have this 1gb sandisk... and the backups.. i want to load them from dvd-R..not usb.

Ok, well you're going to have to update the wii. None of the softmod methods work on 2.2. If you can't get the wii online then you can update from a game. So rent a recent game and pop it in the wii and let it run the update.

Once you're updated to either 4.2 or 4.3, you can follow this guide http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901 as it is the only one I know that is specifically for offline wii's.

Your 1GB sandisk SD card should be fine. And that guide includes directions for installing neogamma, the homebrew app that will let you boot backup disks. USB is easier though, as wii's are very tricky about burned games. Burn at 4x and on good media. Verbatum DVD-R is usually recommended.

Bannerbomb only works with with 4.2 and and earlier. Smash stack is how to mod 4.3.

looks like getting a modem for your internet is the only way to update it...ive searched everwhere and i cant find a 4.3 offlin installer

Just update of one of these games:

New Super Mario Bros (4.1)
Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing (4.1)
Monster Hunter Tri (4.1)
Red Steel 2 (4.1)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (4.2)
Endless Ocean 2 (4.2)
Metroid: Other M (4.3)

Make the game you choose to update off is the region as your console, updating off a out-of-region game can cause a semi-brick in your console.

After you update, softmod using the guide that corresponds to your updated system firmware version:

3.1-4.1:

an easier way would be you getting a wireless usb adaptor abd making a ADHOC network with it which your wii would support
