A friend with no previous experience of softmoding Wii's took it upon himself to have a crack at it using the following guide (on a V4.1E).. http://www.wiikendhacks.com/2009/06/inst...nnel-on-40.html

He dropped it off since he got so far and was not sure if it was working. He'd installed homebrew channel and USB Loader GX.

I first went about installing BootMii (as Boot2) and backed up the nand. I added cIOS222 for the usb microphone games, and updated the Shopping Channel-NUS-v18.wad. I tried the USBloader and although some games work, most go to black screen. I checked all of the settings in the USBLoader configuration and they were the same as mine.

So tried walking through larrylje 4.1 guide, which resulted in the same end result. Most titles go black screen.

Any ideas on how to solve this one?

What about using DOP-IOS to patch the latest IOS revisions?
Or will updating the system to 4.2 then following the 4.2 guide work?
Is there anyway of getting this back to near as factory and start from scratch?

Help appreciated....

if you upgrade to 4.2 then its a virgin again. since your playing from usb im going to assume you downloaded the games. if thats the case are they the same region as your wii. if not try to change the region of the game when you load it on the wii. i typically use a disk loader so im not sure if this is one hundred percent accurate, but that may be your problem. also try to find a compatibility list for the game your running and the different loaders out there (dont feel like searching for one right now :/)

Sorry I should have been clearer. I have previously softmoded my wii, and all these titles work fine on my wii - so I know it not the games. I also have setup the configuration of USBLoader GX the same as mine, so it's not that.

So just to be clear, if I upgrade to 4.2 - it will over write any CIOS or IOS patches, plus any changes to the nand? Thanks

Found the problem. I used my external USB hard drive, all titles worked fine. Use his, some work some dont. In the past I have seen drives that does show up at all, but not like this. So time to remove it and put in in a USB housing that does work.
