before anyone can help you stop writing like a retard.

Listen first off nobody here knows what kind of modded system you have. List specifics please like 4.2u non chipped. Whether you have or dont have homebrew installed etc.

Secondly where did you get your game. Just because the game store sold you a copy of smash you dont know where it came from. Is it burned on a dual layered disk? is it dvd5 version. The wii has issues reading dual layed disks. If you are getting the white screen with green message error it could be that your lens is dirty. I suggest opening up your wii and cleaning the lens with a solution or sending it back to nintend to do it for you.

Why, because you were so impatient after your first post that you posted again 74 minutes later (that's not on); you should be researching the problem for yourself whilst (patiently) awaiting answers. Plus you need to type properly, nobody wants to help people who type so badly, never mind even read the posts.

I have read more legible comments on Youtube. You wanted to kill Nintendo employees because an illegal copy of the game didn't work?

Anyway, to steal this imbecile's thread, I am intending on burning Smash Bros to a DL disc. I have never done a DL for wii, are there any extra Imgburn settings I should be aware of (i.e does layerbreak apply like on 360 DL games?)

I have also heard of a potential brick when it asks you to update. My wii is hardmodded, I think it is wiikey but don't know for sure (is there anyway I can check?). I don't know what version it is- although I last updated it with the Mario Kart update if that is any indicator?

I can only address the DL issue.

I did not change any default settings on imgburn. Some people say to set the layer break, but it was not necessary for me.

As far as which modchip, the only 100% way I know of is to open it up and look inside.

Alternately, you could try the various modchip config DVDs and see which one "works".

Lastly, AFAIK, any potential "bricking" can be avoided buy using a game brom your Wii's region or using a Brickblocker to remove the update.

Ok thanks, I've got wiiBrickBlocker but I'm not sure if it is working. I drag the Iso into the brickblocker filename path, and click patch. It only takes probably 30-60 seconds patching then says patching successful. I just have a suspicion that this is TOO quick for a full inspection of the ISO and patch to be applied. Additionally I have used it before on pro evo 2009 and it made the game unreadable (without brickblocker the wii read it but then wanted me to update). Could you recommend a brick blocker, I am currently using WiiBrickBlocker v1.3 by Rockman.

No, it's actually quite quick. The patches are always in the same place, and brickblocker removes them, it doesn't alter them.

I use WiiUtil v1.1, as it has the ability to change the region and remove updates at the same time.

thanks for the info.

I'll try it with the brick blocker I have got as I now know that it is actually working properly thanks to your advice.

If that fails I'll get WiiUtil v1.1

Just out of interest have you done yourself a Smash Bros copy using WiiUtil?

I ripped my own iso and had no need to patch since the backup and my Wii are from the same region.

It took me a couple of runs to get a good burn. I have to make my system very "quiet" to burn a good backup.

Oh is that the only reason to fear updates? Because of region? I have a PAL wii and the PAL iso, do I not even need to worry about using Brick blocker? I thought there was more to the updates, such as mod detection etc.

The long answer is: Normally, you can't run games from another region, but because your system is modded you can. So, when you accept to update through a game that is from a region different from yours it will brick your system. This is where BrickBlocker comes into play as its function is to remove updates from the ISO before it is burned. Now, if you religiously run PAL games this shouldn't be an area of concern for you. Otherwise, BrickBlocker is a must have!

Finally got round to burning it and cannot get it to work. When I insert the disc the screen goes black and says "an error has occurred please eject disc etc" It doesn't even get to a point where I can see the channel load up the SSBB title menu.
I have burned without layerbreak- didnt work, so burned with the layerbreak 2084960 and get this error message.

Imgburn said the burn was successful so I dont know what else to do. I burn 360 games fine so its not my DLs. The ISO is from a reliable source (I have probably had at least 50 ISOs from the same source). Firmware I am using is 4.2. Didn't brickblock or wiiutil it as it is a PAL game on PAL system.

Any advice?
