So I'm on a 4.0U Wii with Homebrew and running various things like NeoGamma, etc. I've went through and removed any games I didn't directly purchase through the Nintendo Store by uninstalling them off the SD card. I have an external HD that I'm planning to completely format on my PC.
What else do I need to do? Will updating to the latest version erase any and all trace of me doing this stuff? I'm at the point where I simply want to run the system 100% authentic.

Updating the wii to 4.2 will remove most of the homebrew you've installed. Homebrew channel will remain if it is fully updated before you update the wii's firmware, but you can remove it from the wii settings after the update.

Ok. So while I don't foresee any problems, I do have a TON of games that I've purchased through the Nintendo Store and I wanna make sure that if the time ever comes and I have to send it in, I'd like there to be no proof that I ever soft modded the machine.
Is it possible to completely wipe the system entirely?
Oh and I have the Metroid Trilogy disc, would I be wise to update with that which I believe will take me to 4.1? Then after that, update to 4.2 via the Wii Update?

There might be one or 2 pieces of homebrew still somewhere on the system, but they would be extremely difficult to detect.
But Nintendo doesn't seem to care if it's been softmodded. You can even send in wii's with modchips and they'll still service them.

Well I did the update to 4.2 and then removed the 3 channels I had. After that I did a format and I'm hoping it's as good as needed at this point. Thanks for the help! :)

Formating the system memory should take out installed VC/WiiWare games from the system memory (including links between SD card and System)..

I was under the impression that the Wii Store would allow you to re-download games you've purchased... am I wrong?

If you purchased them previously then yes you should be able to re-download them.

Yeah at first, after I formatted, the games on my SD card that were purchased wouldn't work. Once I logged back into the Nintendo Store and linked my account back up (which was done automatically), I was able again to play all my games.
The only thing I forgot to do before the format was copy my Mii's and game saves to my SD card. Ah well, now I have more reason to play some of my games again... :)
