Ok, I have a hacked wii running homebrew and it has been working fine for months now. I mainly play games off of the USB External hd and recently I tried loading a real disc and got the 'unable to read disc error'. I have now tried numerous disc and get the same error message. I have unplugged the unit and everything I can think of and still does it.
It does it when trying to load a disc via the main dvd channel and through neogamma dvd launcher. I call Nintendo and he said I would have to send it in for repair ($85), but I have a warranty I purchased through Walmart and it is still under that warranty.
Now, to my questions. Is there anything I can do to maybe get this fixed without having to send it in? The tech guy suggested trying the wii lense cleaning kit first...if that does not work, is there a way to revert the firmware back to the original (remove homebrew) to send it in for repair/replacement?
Sorry to break it to you, but if you've hacked your wii & installed homebrew, you've actually voided your wii's warranty, so that's why Nintendo is charging $85 to repair. Anyway if you've got Homebrew installed backups & originals alike will not boot from the disc channel, they will only do that if you have a modchip, which i'm guessing you don't have. You would have to install another launcher through the homebrew channel, or alternatively if your neogamma launcher has a "reboot" function (I wouldn't know, I have Gamma Launcher), reboot your wii & it may appear in the disc channel. Sorry I'm only a newbie as well, I don't know alot of the more technical stuff.
