We apparently purchased a softmodded wii and have no idea what to but it will not play some games my kids recieved for christmas. I know nothing about changing and updating, bricking and preloaders etc.... My question is can I just update the wii and start over or is this ruin the wii console forever. Any help would be great.

More then likely the games that are not working need to have an IOS installed to the system. These IOS's are on the game disc itself via the update. If you have priiloader installed then more then likely it has blocked disc updates and network updates to protect the softmod. This is why the games probably will not play. The game disc update needs to install the IOS to the system but Priiloader is blocking the update. Updating from the game disc or from Nintendo's servers (network update) will more then likely disable your softmod (it should not brick the system).

In order to get around this and keep your softmod intact you will need to install the game IOS in an alternative way. The easiest way to make sure you have all the latest game IOS installed is using dop-mii v15. Run this homebrew via the Homebrew Channel. It will tell you if any IOS needs updated or if any of them need to be installed. It will then let you install the latest versions (you need WiFi for this option).

Thanks for replying, and for your upcoming patience. I have some questions I guess...

How do I know if I have a priiloader (my kids were told not to update so they never did)?

Where and how do I get dop-mii v15.

Where do I get IOS.

Thanks again

if you have priiloader installed, turn on the wii and immediately hold the reset button. if a menu pops up, then it will identify itself as priiloader.

for dop-mii, you will need a SD card or a properly formatted FAT32 hard drive. also, you will need a wifi connection for easy IOS installs.

all it takes is common sense. never uninstall any IOS under 200, update to the latest, non-stub version, and never touch any IOS over 200 unless you know what you are doing.
