Is there a way to update a wii from 4.1 to 4.2? I modded my 4.2 wii with no problems via larry's method. I want to softmod my brothers wii via the same method, but he is currently on 4.1. I would like to find a way to update the wii from 4.1 to 4.2 instead of using nintendos method and being forced into 4.3? I even tried a program through the homebrew channel call update file extractor.. So apparently i have the 4.2 update from new super mario brothers on an sd card.. Just not sure where to go from here.. Any ideas anyone? :/

You could just softmod the wii on it's current firmware version, without needing to update using this guide:

This guide will tell you how to softmod on 4.1, so you shouldn't have any problems there, but if you really want to update from 4.2 you could update off any of these games, all have a 4.2 update (Make sure the game matches your console's region!!):

Endless Ocean 2
Super Mario Galaxy 2

Alternatively, you could attempt a WAD install, using the files for the 4.2 system menu that correspond to your console's region. This would be done with The Homebrew Channel's WAD Manager program. I can give you the files & instructions if you wish to proceed with this method.

You should also know there are certain risks when updating to 4.2. What is your console's region setting (NTSC-U, PAL etc)?
