Hey guys, was wondering if anyone could give me some info as my knowledge is no where near in depth as many of you. I've read lots of different threads and pieced together bits of info but they don't all necessarily apply to my particular situation. Basically I had my Wii modded a few years back with a Yaosm chip (not sure what version) and was doing fine backing up my games but now am not able to get the newer games backed up. I have never gone online with the wii in fears that they might throw an update that might render my Wii useless. But I guess on the negative aspect I haven't gotten any updates that I'm thinking some of these newer games may use. I have a NTSC Wii (serial # LU**) and have been patching these games that I can't get to work with brick blocker. I get to the start-up screen and the game shows up but when I start it I just get a black screen. My older games all still work fine. Now I am assuming it's because of the lack of updates but I'm not positive. So here is my question: Am I safe running one of the "updates" from one of these newer games? (the one with the good ol' message about "if you have altered your hardware it may render it useless) By the way I live and get the games in the US if that makes a difference. I am not downloading any games, so is it safe to say there is no way I can accidentally update to a PAL update and brick the system since I only get the games that are sold in the US or does it not work like that? Also in my scenario with an old Yaosm chip (I know most people have Wiikey or D2C versions) is it safe to go online and download nintendo's updates? I greatly appreciate any help, thanks

Modchips aren't usually detectable by Nintendo updates, & I don't even know if updating has anything to do with not being able to copy the wii games, but if you want to update to 4.2 by going online, do these steps first.

1. Make sure your modchip can autoboot games. This means your modchip can automatically start games without even starting the wii menu.

2. Download this save file: http://static.hackmii.com/indiana-pwns.zip

3. Follow the usage & installation instructions of this page: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Indiana_Pwns

If you brick because of the update, post it here, & someone can provide you with the homebrew you need to unbrick it. The save file you will install is a hacked save file of LEGO Indiana Jones, so if you have a original, not hacked save file for the game already, copy it to your computer until after the update.

When you brick, boot a disc of the LEGO Indiana Jones game. Then you'll follow the usage instructions on the wii brew page, & a exploit will run, allowing you to unbrick.
