stay on 4.1, but use dop-mii v15 to update your IOSes under 200 with the lastes non-stubbed version.
install priiloader 0.6 with the hacks_hash.ini, and block disc and network updates.
reinstall HBC with the latest hackmii installer, so HBC will run under IOS58.
use cIOSX_rev21 installer to install base 58 to IOS248, base 57 to IOS249, and base 56 to IOS250
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd

do NOT use the dop-mii syscheck; it crashes.
but yes. you need to install a bunch of missing IOSes. start from IOS80 and go backwards. make sure the ones you install are the latest, non-stub versions.
make sure to be using dop-mii v15. anything older will be missing IOSes.

if you don't have a fakesigned IOS, download IOS236 v5 installer and run that first. then rerun dop-mii under IOS236.

when you ran the IOS236 installer, did you choose option 2? because choosing option 1 erases IOS236.
also, when you load IOS236 in dop-mii v15, allow it to use AHBPROT

there's nothing complicated about dop-mii. it's very detailed at what the buttons do.
and if you were to install a IOS, it will tell if you are installing a stubbed version in bright yellow. if the latest one is stubbed, go back one version until there is no stub warning.
all in all, it should take 10 minutes to update everything.

run the hackmii 0.8 installer. uninstall and reinstall HBC. this usually happens when the IOS that HBC runs is tampered with. but with HBC 1.0.8 running under IOS58, it should be no problem.

tried installing homebrew channel via hackmii v0.8 but when in hackmii it says
This installer can NOT continue.
There is no usable or vulnerable IOS installed on this wii.
Please note that we will not use fakesigned IOSes due to secruity reasons.Only UNPATCHED versions will be used .
ok ive downloaded wadmanger1.7 and installed 58 and 61 and homebrew is back to norm :)

Nearly there mate :) ive now done all of the above except from when i try install Priiloader i get this message
ES_Identify failed, error 4294966279. ios58 not patched with ES_DIVerify? using cios (holding b and then pressing + or -) will probably solve this.
NOTE: you need CIOS for this.
Do you wish to continue?
Ive tried holding down the b button and nothing has happened......

apparently, you patched every single IOS when you ran dop-mii. that's why the hackmii installer failed to continue.
rerun dop-mii and reinstall all IOSes again, except do NOT patch them (if you're using dop-mii wiibrew edition, then this doesn't matter)
and when you ran the priiloader installer, did you press the plus button while holding down B?
