Just a quick question, I have a already modded v3.4u Wii system that I need to upgrade (presumably) to v4.2 in order to get my Netflix Instant Streaming disc to work. So my question is, can I just use the system upgrade function on the Wii to upgrade to the latest firmware version without any problems or will I end up bricking my Wii? Is there a alternative option to upgrade to 4.2 (Waninkoko upgrader for example?)

I have the same question, but I think the upgrader is the safest way, haven't tried it tough
Hey, I just went ahead a tried it anyway. I used the system update function in the Wii system menu and it updated no problem. My HBC, WiiFlow, and USBLoader were all still installed but the IOS they use (except HBC) was overwritten so you will have to re-install the particular IOS they use. I would recommend just using the very popular 4.2 soft mod guide (sticky'd in this forum)
