Just a quick question. I have a modded Wii with system menu v3.4u and I need to upgrade it to (presumably) 4.2 in order to get my Wii Netflix disc to work properly, so if I use the system update function from my Wii will I brick it? Should I try and remove all the hacks/mods before upgrading (not sure if that's even possible)?
Upgrade to official 4.2 directly and re-mod or download 4.0 / 4.1 / 4.2 safe updates (and run them in the correct order). I'm not sure about upgrading directly to 4.2 using the safe updates so I'm not recommending it.

When I asked that Larry guy who writes the guides the same question a few months ago he said to just upgrade to 4.2u via nintendo and then follow his softmod guide to reinstall the hacks and homebrew needed to run backups, use usb loader, etc.
I chose to run the 4.2 updater by waninkoko instead and it worked fine for me. I went from 3.4u to 4.2u via the updater and did not loose any homebrew functionality so I did not have to redo the softmod guide and hence saved time. I have bootmi installed as boot2 and figured i could use my nand backup if the updated did not work right for me but all came out fine.
If you have an older wii and have bootmii installed as boot2 you can ensure you have a nand backup and try out the waninkoko updater. I have used the 4.0u version on a different Wii and it worked fine also.

I'm having the same problem as the OP, I twilight hacked my wii january of 2009 and it's been great, but I just got netflix and want to watch instantly on my wii. any chance you could give me a little more (or a lot more if you have the time) detail about how to run the waninko 4.2 updater, where to find it, etc. My brother did the twilight hack for me and lives in a different state, I don't know much but could definitely follow some instructions if someone is willing to step by step it for me. Thanks in advance.
