Upgrade Wiikey V1 or softmod?

Hello fellow AD members, I have a Wiikey V1 and was wondering after all my backups stopped working out of the blue if its time to upgrade to something different, I have being away from the scene for quite some time and I just discover that you can softmod and have all the pleasures once where obtain by hard-moding the Wii. Since I'm way behind I have a lot of reading to do to catch up, but in the mean time I want to see what the community here at AD thinks its the best chip on the market and what are the advantages. Hope somebody can share some info on this issue. I'll be reading all the guides offer here at AD to softmod. Thanks for any info!

A softmod can do anything a Hardmod can pluss more (softmod can use a USB Loader).

I was thinking to give it a try with softmod first since I can do it right away. Do you know of any incompatibilities by softmoding and having a Wiikey at the same time?
