I am a bit of a novice,I was wondering could an external media hard drive(Sumvision Cyclone 500GB for example)be partitioned to have a section for WBFS(For Wii games) & a section for (FAT32)playing avi movie files?
Would it be possible to have 1 unit & put usb connection into Wii for games & swap to a scart connection to play movies on a TV?

yes an external usb hdd can be partitioned.i have a 320gb hdd + partitioned 100gb for movies ,music etc and the remaining 200gb or so for wii games.there are a couple of threads explaining how to do this.just do a search.you need to make sure that your hdd is compatible.check here [url=http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php?title=USB_Devices_Compatibility_List]
But not sure about playing movies on your hdd using the wii.think you need to install mplayer through homebrew

I use GEEXBOX to play AVI files on a partitioned HDD. You can get it HERE.
