wbfs on hard drive no longer accessable

got a hard drive with WBFS file system been working fine for ages, using Configurable USB loader upgraded to the newest update, when going back into the config usb loader it says no WBFS partition i loaded the backup of usb config back on sd card before i updated same error have not formatted the WBFS partition just really stuck lost in HxD program and cygwin please help.

1st try the other USB slot

2nd make sure that you can still all games from computer.

then make sure your WBFS partition in set to active. (Start menu/right click computer/manage/storage/disc management. Then highlight the WBFS partition, right click and "Mark partition as active"

One of these should work

using correct usb slot can't see games on pc WBFS is active.

i don't know where the 0x00 is in HxD to change to 0x01 on the wbfs drive, as its all in hex i only found 1 0x00 ND Have over 200 games

i just want to recover game files from external hard drive, anyone ever recovered data from a wbfs hard drive?

i had a similar situation when a wbfs drive i was working with was accidentally formatted. i was able to recover all the games using the instructions below. it is a little tedious and technical but it worked. i was able to recover all the games from the formatted drive.

what you need to do (theoretically) is:

1. get a hex editor that can handle hard drive partitions. e.g. hxd http://mh-nexus.de/en/
2. search for "wbfs" - this will probably be at sector 63 or 64
3. change the 0x00's from byte 12 onwards to 0x01 for however many games you have on the disc.
4. thats it

you can find out how many images you have on there by looking at the successive sectors and counting the disc titles you find.

the first 12 bytes in the partition sector are:
"wbfs"
4 bytes of partition size
4 bytes of housekeeping (size of sector, size of wbfs sector, two pads)

the rest of the sector is the usage table and thats what you need to change.

can anyone explain step 3 in basic terms i opened the hard drive 2 as the partition does not show found wbfs on 69 as the first partition is 2gb fat for booting other stuff only found one 0x00 when using find so i guess im applying the logic to this wrong

you can recover lost wfbs drives using wimms tool. I already posted a guide on how to get into recovery mode here:
