Hi all! ^o^

I soft modded my Wii a while backk, earlier this year I think. It has firmware 3.2E on it and I was just wondering, what are the benefits of me upgrading and softmodding it again? I noticed as nice tutorial a couple of posts down for softmodding 4.2, so I quite fancy doing that, but wondered is there any REAL benefits for me to goto all this trouble? o.0

I used to use Gecko OS to play burnt disks, but apparently you can play ISO's straight from an external device? I'll have a proper look into this later. Don't expect you guy's to do all the leg work for me. lol If I was to run games from an external device, do the games run quicker from there than a burnt disk? Obvious answer is they would, but I just wanna make sure. lol some games I played on a burnt disk used to stutter occasionally. Not all though. Also, will all of the titles (Gamecube & Wii) I've burnt so far still work if I upgrade, aswel as any Wiiware and VC I have installed?

Thanks for any help peeps! ^o^

Appreciate it!

Advantages: Upgrading would let you play some newer games without installing individual IOS patches for them.

Disadvantages: It makes you start over with modding the system, and for people who are hardmodded (no homebrew) it blocks playing import games.

All your current titles will continue to work. Any wiiware and VC titles you've installed should also be unaffected.

Games on a USB device do run slightly quicker than from a disk, but it's not really a noticeable difference usually. The real advantage to the USB method is not having to burn DVDs all the time and not putting wear-and-tear on the wii's DVD drive. Also, if you travel with the console it's easier than carrying around all the games.

Coolio! ^o^ Thanks!

I was just looking at this compatability list. Apparently not all usb devices are compatible. Do you know how recent this is? What USB device do you use for your's, if you use one? I have a WD passport drive 80gb, which apparently doesn't work with the listed software... lol I'm gonna give this a whirl possibly tomoz, so I'll soon find out. Would be nice to not have to burn disks for wii games! ^o^

Also, sorry tom be a pain, but is there a way you can run VC and Wiiware from a USB device or SD card? Now I soun dlike a proper newbie, but it seems like it's been sooo long since I looked at software and homebrew for my Wii! lol I just want an excuse to get my Wii out again, because the xbox has taken over it's spot! lol >.<
