You cant find any info on modchips because practically nobody uses them anymore.

Softmodding in the way to go, and the only option for newer wii's.

I would recommend a softmod instead of a Modchip. It is cheaper and has more options. If this is a newer Wii system you wouldn't be able to play backup disc on it anyway (due to the new drives they have). What system menu are you on?

softmodding still would be the better choice. You can use a USB HDD to play the games from. This way you don't need to buy DVD's. As well you can use homebrew apps with a softmod.

If it is 4.2 or below follow this guide HERE.

If it is 4.3 follow this guide HERE.

Thanks for those links! I just decided to look into Wii modding and was ready to pour through hundreds of threads to try to catch up with the scene. What a huge help!

Just follow the guide for 4.2 or below
the mod chip will continue to function anytime you load a backup disc via the disc channel. Any loading you do from disc via neogamma or usb loaders which are installed during the above linked softmod guide you are using the softmod. Since you already have a modchip softmodding the console just gives you the best of both worlds. Enjoy.
