I use Wii Backup Manager. I think it is the best Wii file handler around. It can convert from any to just about every file format used in or around your wii. These include: .iso, .wbfs, .cios, .rar, and the wbfs drive wacky format The first two for use when using FAT32 or NTFS on your Wii.
You will find a more information, a screenshot, and download here:

Converting to .cios gives the smallest footprint with .wbfs almost the same. I use .wbfs because that can be used directly by your Wii with UBS Loader. And, if you ever need it in another format you can always convert from .wbfs to any of the orher formats (except back to .rar) using this utility.
I think that you missed the point of OP's post completely. AFAIK, Wii Backup Manager has no facility to BACKUP Wii DVDs in a PC and even if it did, you'd need one of the LG drives. OP refers to DVD Shrink and DVD Fab which are both PC based programs.
@Idleman,
Are you aware of the following?
1)You cannot run backup games in a Wii without some sort of softmod or hardmod.
2)You cannot backup Wii games using a PC unless you have one of a very few (discontinued) DVD-ROM drives and special software
3)If you have a softmodded Wii, you can create backups to an external HDD or to an SD card and then burn backups from a PC.
Not sure if you knew any of these. Your original question implies that you are new to Wii backups.

I don't have an LG drive and I can rip a Wii ISO from disc just fine. The program is called "IMGBURN". That's right, good'ol imgburn can rip wii iso's from a wii dvd disc. My computer won't register a disc in my drive but I open up imgburn and it finds it just fine.
Hey the guy asked a question if something was possible. Not what he should do. And the answer is NO. You can't shrink a Wii game and put it on dvd. It has to be the 4+plus gb size on the dvd disc or it won't work. But the games that get put on a usb hd can't be shrunk and stored on the usb hd. There are some games that aren't even 100 MB that get expanded to 4 gb on the disc. Man that's ridiculous!?! Anyway, it might be in vain explaining to him if he doesn't even have his wii modded. He didn't clarify much, you know.
