Hello,

I thought I would update the thread entitled "Wii BACKUP with NERO only. no need for rawdump. no need for LG. only take 30minutes." I am not allowed to because I am a newbie and the post is too old.

I have had success using one computer with the following.

OS - Windows XP Pro
Nero version 6.6.0.8
DVD Drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H42N which is an LG but not one of the fabled four)
DVD Media - Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8X 4.7GB - Silver Shiny Top

So far I have had great success, and just wanted to update people on this.

Are you burning or ripping?

Why are you providing your media type if you are ripping?

I highly doubt that Nero can read a Wii ORIGINAL disc let alone Windows XP even recognizing the disc.

I am ripping and writing from existing backups on to better media. The previous media (Memorex, Maxell, and Fuji) was giving my Wii issues with most discs not working.

These discs are not recognized at all in Win XP; it appears as if nothing is in the disc drive under Windows Explorer.

I followed the instructions from the mentioned post and opened up Nero and just went strait to "Copy Disc" and have the following settings:

Read Options (Tab):

Fast Copy Settings = Data DVD
Error Correction = Reading with error correction (slow and safe)
Read Retry count = 1

Handling of non-correctable read errors = unchecked

Burn (Tab):

Write = checked
Write speed = Maximum
Number of copies = 1


I tried this exact setup in a laptop with an external USB DVD writer with the same settings in Nero, but no matter what, the discs were coming out bad. I decided to investigate and copied the same disc on the desktop computer that has been creating copies, and all the discs being copied are coming out good.

It never hurts to mention too much detail with computers ;) I will be testing an original Wii disc and seeing what the results are tonight :)

it's known that you can rip backup games without the LG drive. but if you try an original disc, it won't be read unless you have the LG drive.

Copying (already completed) backups can be done on any drive. You are not "ripping" if you are making a copy of a backup disc.

You won't be able to read an original with your setup.

Doh! You are correct sirs :) Well I do have one of the special CD-ROMs coming my way, so that'll take care of that then :)
