Wii Firmware / DVD Drive Question

A friend updated his Wii to Firmware 4.3 without knowing the repercussions.

I have an old Wii DVD drive to give him. I was wanting to know if he changes out the DVD Drive to mine, would that make his Wii 3.2? Or is the firmware flashed somewhere else on the system?

DVD Drive is hardware, The Firmware is software. So no. You can downgrade, but that's dangerous. Try looking into a "system format".

How about a System Format? This Wii has never been Softmodded. Would that restore it back to the original firmware?

No, formatting only removes game saves and any installed channels. It has no effect on the firmware as that is stored in a different location.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to do, but if it's softmodding the system then you can follow this 4.3 softmod guide. http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs...tmod-guide.html
