My wife and I just got a black Wii recently and I wanted to know if there are any risks to modding it. Can you get banned from online play for using backed up copies of games? etc. Thanks for any info.

No you cant get banned. And so long as you're careful and follow the guides one step at a time the odds of breaking the wii are very small.

You wont be able to run backup disk copies with your black wii though, you'll need to use a USB loader instead.
