I'm modding a friend's Wii. It had 3.2u on it and was previously modded.
Except not all the games would work so i suggested we mod it up to 4.1 and use the new gamma loader. This would make my 5th time modding a wii with the new 4.1 technique.

First I updated via the network update to 4.1
Then I installed the newer Homebrew Channel.
Then I ran the IOS60patched.wad and the NeoGammaR6-NGBL.wad
Ran IOS Downgrader to patch the rest and I thought I was done.

Except I popped in Conduit and tested it and it did not work.
So someone suggested to me to just run everything as if it had never been modded. Did all of that.

I popped in Conduit. It loaded. I popped in Mario Galaxy. Loaded.

I popped in Mortal Kombat, no dice.
Boom Blox, no dice.

Then I tried Galaxy and Conduit again and neither worked. Wtf is going on.

I then re-installed the IOS60patched.wad and the NeoGammaR6-NGBL.wad and Mario Galaxy worked!!

But then I tried Conduit and it didnt load followed by another failure to load Galaxy.

I ran IOSDowngrader and it said everything was already patched, I am officially stumped.

Help me AfterDawn, you're my only hope.

Perhaps the disc drive is going out or the discs themselves are corrupt. Are you using good quality DVD-R's only and burning them at 2.4x or 4x?

I stopped using discs because I could really here my wii fighting to keep reading backups and was afraid it would eventually go out.

Ever since switching to a hard drive and USB loader GX, all my backups play great and there is no more wear and tear on the drive extra worries about having bad disc burns.

you mean over time, the backup discs ruin the drive?

It is able to play Official games like WiiSports and Smash Bros just fine. It just will not play backups that were confirmed working on more than one modded wii's.

Have you tried tuning the Wii off then on each time you try to load a diffrent game?

I know this can be a pain but cIOS38_rev10a has caused issues like this with others.

Thanks I will try that.

I installed usb loader gx and it is able to load games from an external HD. I'm beginning to think it is physical problem with the dvd drive.

Edit:
Found someone who used to work for Nintendo before retiring. He said he would clean out everything and fix the disc drive for $40. We are going to do that. Thanks everyone for trying to help! :)
