does SDHC card class matter with the Wii? I have a Kingston 8gb class 4 and saw a A-Data 8gb class 10 for $24...would I see a difference with the class 10?

Not all SD cards are compatible with the Wii as you probably already know. And of course, if you have a firmware below 4.0 all SDHC cards will not work. Additionally, cards that have slow speed may yield slow transfers that could result in errors or not functioning altogether. You could take a look at the compatibility list here. If you are overly concerned about this then your best bet is to look for SD/SDHC cards that have the official Nintendo seal on them.

trying to determine if a higher class card makes any difference in the wii when it comes to read/write data transfer like for running wiiware from the card. a class 10 card has a 10mb data transfer rate but if the device is only capable of a 2mb transfer ratethan a 10 class wont do anthing better than a class 2. i asked nintendo support what the wii was capable of but could not get an answer.

The speed depends on the host device which is in this case the Wii. The Wii is capable of reading from an SD card at up to 20MB/sec and writing to an SD card at up to 6.7MB/sec. Also, class 6 cards get you 6 MB/sec write speed. Class 8 and higher will get you 6.7 MB/sec write speed. So, to answer your question, yes there should be a slight increase in read/write speed.
