My Wii is original Wii 4.2E with Wasabi DX, but I don't have yet the cIOS.
Can I install the newest Shop Channel without updating the Wii System Menu or installing cIOS?

4.2E should have already installed the latest shop channel since it is the latest System Menu.

But I mean, how to install safely newest Shop Channel in 4.1E without cIOS. And I have HBC installed.

A new version of the Wii Shopping Channel has been released (V.18). Get NUSD. Go to Database=>System=>Shopping Channel=>All System=>Latest Version. Tick Pack box (bottom left), and then hit Start NUS Download!. This will give you the latest version of the Shop Channel in WAD format. Install the file, as usual, with WAD Manager.

I actually had to click on V18 yesterday, not Latest Version, as there was some issue and it kept downloading V17, unless that is fixed now.

@ smokyrain,
I downloaded it yesterday, and it (NUSD) didn't present me with v18. I'm using 1.3 Beta version.
@ Arazor,
You have two options.
1. You either need to follow a Softmod guide to get the trucha bug.
2. or install a cIOS
A guide on how to install cIOS is found here.

Thats what I mean, I had to click on V18 to download V18, not as you said Database=>System=>Shopping Channel=>All System=>Latest Version.
If it did it the way you have presented, it downloaded V17
I had to do it this way: Database=>System=>Shopping Channel=>All System=>V18
They may have fixed the problem since I used it. It was stated on wiibrew.org about that yesterday.

I see what you're saying. I haven't checked since then to see if they have fixed this yet or not.
@ cee43ja1,
I did try to update using WiiSCU, but I've encountered an error.

I have heard of quite a few people who encountered an error with that method.

Good Idea larrylje, that should help a lot of people out.

The short answer is "no". You either need a softmodded Wii or a custom IOS to update the Shop Channel alone.

Hi. I have a question on this topic. I have currently did the 4.2 update via the console. I then added my homebrew and all that other other stuff that goes along with it. Now everything works well, including all channels EXCEPT for shop channel. I am wondering why the shop channel is asking me to update when my whole system has already been updated to 4.2 The question I have is can I do the shop channel update without screwing up my homebrew? Or better yet, why is the shopping channel asking me to update period?
Some sort of writing goes here?

A new shop channel came out a few weeks after the 4.2 update so this is probably the reason.
Go to the softmod guide in my sig. You only need to follow the 4.2 Shop Channel v18: section of the guide.

Quote: 4.2 Shop Channel v18:
Those that want to update to 4.2 v18 Shop Channel can follow the below instructions.
Start the Homebrew Channel and run 4.2 Shop Channel and follow the on-screen instructions.
At spots it can seem like it has frozen. Do not restart or turn off Wii just let it do its work.
First off I don't have that option in my homebrew channel. Secondly, do I have to do other sections at all of your guide?

Maybe you would if you downloaded the softmod pack.
As to what steps you need to do, what did I say in my above post?

Ok. I didn't realize I was supposed to download the files. Your guide as I quoted

does not say to download the pack. Hence my 2nd question if there are any other steps to follow on your guide. In which the answer would have been "yes, download the softmod pack"
Sorry for the sarcasm, but not everyone is a pro and knows exactly what to do, hence internet guides. But thank you for your support. I appreciate it.

So let me see if I have this correct. I downloaded the softpack, extracted the 4.2 shop channel folder and put it alongside my usb loader and neo gamma folder. Now if I put my sd card back in, shall it be there as an option?

You don't need to be a pro. I would think most would be smart enough to know if you have to do a step in the guide that you would need the softmod pack. How else would you do it?

Because I already did a 10 page mod and figured the file might have been there, thats how. No disrespect but don't just assume people are going to know even that. I normally wouldn't even ask questions of this nature as I actually do alot of computer stuff, however the wii is something new to me and I didn't want to screw anything up on it. Thats all.

I have a wiikey v1 chip, yes, it's modded. I try to go to the wii shop thingy and every time I do it says I need to do a wii system update. Is it safe to do since I have a modded wii and will doing it cause me to lose the ability to play back ups and such and etc? All i really want to do is be able to play old school mario bro's games. what is homebrew? I can't really seem to find any direct answers about that. How do I get it? Do I need it if my wii has a modchip?
