I have a question about my Wii and the Wiikey modchip that is soldered into it. I also have Homebrew installed. I want to restore the Wii back to the original set-up by taking the Homebrew off and not using the Wiikey. The Wii is going to my little brother and sister and they have no use for any modding. Taking off the Homebrew will be easy enough. My question is about the modchip. If I update to the newest firmware (4.3, I think) and they just use original discs (not copied) ... will they even know the chip is in there or should I open the Wii and remove the chip? Will leaving the chip installed effect the Wii in any way if it is just used for playing regular games and the Wii channels?
If you update your wii with the chip still inside, it will be fine, but the modchip will lose it's region-free capability, not really important in your case, but the fact the modchip's still there shouldn't effect the wii's operation. If you know how to remove a soldered chip, you can also do that, but I think it takes a great amount of tools & skill to un-solder a modchip, either option should be fine.
I'd remove it anyway, though just in case (If you are able to).

I removed the chip and all is working properly. Thanks.
