hi... i have not used my wii in ages and have downloaded a new(ish) game which is guitar hero 5. this game tells me i need a update to make it work.

the latest update i have done to the system is the update needed to play NFS undecover.
My wii firmware is 3.2E and i have a wiikey which is on a firmware 1.9s. i also have the latest firmware installed on the wii.

i would like to know how do i carry out the latest updates to the wii whilst still being able to play my back ups

I am in the same situaton.

I feel so out of touch... IOS this, everyone has softmods... all these homebrew apps...
I am so lost, and all the guides I read are written well, but too far ahead of where I am and my current knowledge.

I have homebrew channel loaded on my wii, but I am also 3.2 and 1.9s with original wiikey.

Can someone please direct us to a helpful guide of getting 'current' with our set ups?
Ultimately I want to be able to utilize an external usb hard drive...

If you have a modchip and only play games from your wii's home region then it is still perfectly safe to update. 4.2 will not effect your modchip, but it will block the ability to play out of region games without homebrew help.

As for installing a softmod or USB loader, you just need to follow the guides one step at a time. They look much harder than they are, I assure you.
