Can anyone help please. i have a 4.2 softmod Wii, i followed Larrylje guide and all worked (as far as i can see anyway), i have now installed USB Loader Gx. I have tried to put a scrubbed Wii ISO on my 2Gb USB the Iso shows 4.2 Gb but in the properties it states it is 400mb. can this be put on the USb or will i need a large USB.

Also, should i install hermes cios 222 thingy?

Many thanks for any advice

The 400md is the size of the file in the full iso, the game will be transfered in wbfs format. This takes only the actual game part and removes the update and rubbish.

Should fit on the USB

222 is a custom ios to allow games to run, 249 is another. I would add 222v4 as this gives you options if the game or USB device won't run on 249

Kittymat, many thanks for the advice, much appreciated. do i have to convert the ISO to wbfs and dump on the USB, as i have tried to dump the ISO as it is and the file is 4 Gig. Also, with 222V4 is it easy to install as i have USB Loader GX on the SD card through Home-brew channel, should i install 222v4 first.

thanks for the help by the way, very difficult to follow some of these threads being a newbie.

To convert your iso's

1) Retail discs - put it in when running GX loader and it dumps it for you (to a wbfs file)

2) For iso files - get WBFS manager 3.0, or Wii Backup manager point them to the files and the destination and they will do the work for you.

If you are already running GX and its working.

Start GX loader, go to the menu and move through to the credits - enter and in the top right is shows what revision of GX you are running and what custom ios it is running on.

Also what format is the USB device (WBFS, FAT, NTFS)
1) WBFS - fine and working well as long as you have GX Loader rev921 or below
2) FAT32 - you must be on GX revision 900 or above to RIP games
3) NTFS - Loads but ripping is problematic, best to use another format to do the ripping.

usb loader GX is a good program if you get it working if not, configurable usb loader is another good one that has the same options for setting up a game.

Hi Kittymat,

Not sure if i have installed cios222 yet, so checking through GX loader will help let me know. i have a new black Wii so i cannot play backed up games through the DVD hence the need for using the USB. The USB is currently Fat so i will need to convert to WBFS. can i just check that this procedure is correct?
1. i open up the ISO back up game from DVD on my PC's DVD drive,
2. convert the USB to WBFS using WBFS manager 3.0,
3. Then dump the ISO onto that drive,
4. Open USB Loader GX and check what IOS (if any) if am using.
5. Install CIOS 222rev 4 if not installed
6. Run USB Loader GX,
7. Put USB with WBFS game in back of WII and play?

Sorry to ask this, but i need a bit of an idiots guide.

Many thanks for your continued help

Many thanks will try tonight. just one last question, when the ISO (shows 4.02gb on PC, properties shows 400MB) is dumped on the WBFS USB, will it be 400MB or 4.2 GB, as the USB is only 2GB

the WBFS manager takes out all it does not need, and the game files are a lot smaller than the original file

Ok tried it, and it is not working. i installed CIOS 222 rev4, and i used wii backup manager to format the USB into WBFS then transfered the WBFS files to the USB. Plug it in the back open up USB Loader GX and it asks to format the USB into WBFS again. can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong please.

Many thanks

Unfortunately most USB loaders are fussy about the hard drive - it may be that your hard drive is not supported. Do you have another to try!
