Hi guy's, just a couple of questions I have here before I mod my wii.
Basically I've had a wii modded with the wiikey version 1 in the past and it was great, I could update the wiikey, the console and go online but that console is now a thing of the past so I ordered a wiikey fusion for my current wii. Now I've read the wiikey website ect.. and have got a certain amount of knowledge but I prefer the knowledge of Aferdawners that know what the score is :D
My main question is, can I update the wii to the lastest firmware ?
I've been out of the game a good while now so I don't know what's taken place or if nintendo have blocked chips ect...
I know I could have softmodded but I just wanted something like the wiikey and hopefully just update the chip and console now and then and that's it.
So yeah, these day's is it ok to update the console to the latest firmware and go online with a wiikey fusion ?
The answer to your question is no. As of firmware update 4.2, Nintendo have started to kill modchip region capability. The modchip will still play in-region backups, but backups from regions other than your own won't work. This feature remains on all subsequent updates from 4.2 & can only be bypassed with softmodding.

Thanks for the reply.
To be honest that's not really a big deal for me the in region back-ups'. Over the past few years all I really had was PAL back ups, and I still have many on my hd so bottom line is if your happy to play just your own region back ups then fire away and update everything right ?
How bout the getting online situation, that still ok to do ?
Going online is not a problem, your only risk of danger is during the updating, 1 in 1000 wiis that update to 4.2 are unintentionally bricked by Nintendo, but it's pretty easy to beat those odds.
