I'm sorry if this has been asked multiple times, but I've been searching and I can't seem to get a direct answer. My question is pretty simple, I have a hardmodded NTSC wii (3.2U), with wiikey V1, which is updated to 1.9g for mario galaxy. And since then I have not really touched my wii. Now that the current wii firmware is out with 4.2U I was wondering what are the necessary steps to update to 4.2U without it detecting my mod chip and allows me to continue to play my backed up games.
Please post, I'd really appreciate it.

dont upgrade to 4.2 it will make your mod chip useless. You need to get homebrew installed and install updater so you can update to atleast 4.1 to be able to play all the current games without issues.
You are going to need wad manager and system menu 4.1 wad file.

so all you did was update your wiikey from 1.9g to 1.9s and then updated your wii to 4.2U, nothing more? and all your backups other than your foreign region disks are fine?

I am running Wiikey v1 with firmware 1.9s and just installed wii update to 4.2 and all my NTSC backups work fine. Since you dont know what firmware you are running, update the wiikey firmware first. After you have done that go ahead and do the online wii update. Personally I always update online vs using the update that the game wants to install.

I have a wiikey last updated with the SMG fix. I just used my wii wifi for the first time and updated to 4.2u. All my burned games still seem to work but any new games I rip and burn can't be read. I tried House of the Dead 2&3 Returns and RE Darkside Chronicles. I'm using rawdump 2.0 and burning with nero same as I always have.
The only thing different is that I changed my drive drive used for ripping to an identical one with a different color front bezel, but rawdump reads and rips them with no problems.
Any suggestions.

Not sure, did you put your old drive in just to check? I just did Sonic and the black knight after I updated and everything woked fine. The only game I'm having issues with is NSMB but I think most people are having issues with that one still. GL with your issue.

I don't have the other drive anymore. It turned out the backup of RE Darkside was finally readable on the disc chanel, but only once out of every ten to fifteen tries plus it ends up freezing up during the opening scenes of the game. Maybe a bad burn, I will try again with other DVD-R's.

I got it working using the guide here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-154/...814789/#4937599
I think the common misconception for others (was for me anyhow) is that you can install the homebrew stuff easier/differently if you already have a chip, that's simply not the case. Just do the steps mentioned in the link above, and install NeoGamma to launch from DVD.

so just to double check, with a wiikey v1 (1.9g) and 3.2U firmware, it's ok to update my wii to 4.2U as long as I update my wiikey firmware to 1.9s?

I must be doing something wrong, I'm the only one that seems to have this problem.
Original wiikey 1.9s
4.2U
All of my old backups still work. But anything moderately new doesn't work. I just get "An error has occurred. Press
the Eject Button..." I don't get it, I'm doing the same thing I've always done. use an ntsc iso and burn with img burn at 4x. edited by ddp
