i have a wii currently running 4.1(ntsc) firmware, i use a 250gb external wd hard drive and usbloader, and also i think i am on something like 1.0.3 homebrew i cant even remember its been so long. but anyways i was wondering if i should update my system or any parts of it, i was kind of wondering about the ios58 installer, and updating my homebrew channel. the only reason i havent is because everything works fine, which the only thing i do is play games from the hard drive anyways, so should i even bother with the update, are there any important games so far that wont work on 4.1, just wondering because it seems rather difficult to update. thanks for any info.
The rule of thumb that one should always follow is: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I'm sure many things could be safely updated. Homebrew channel, many of your cIOS's, exc. But whatever else you may update, do not update the wii's firmware.
so basically just leave it alone, but i may update the hbc and install that ios58 but i was afraid that if i done that my wii may have trouble with the external hdd since it has been working great so far, i dont know if i should really mess with it over 2.0 capabilities, thanks for the quick responses.
You don't need to update at this point, any games that come out that won't work can be made to work via install IOS. If you are going to update, do it via the Homebrew Channel, don't do it via Nintendo's official methods (Online & Disc Updating).
